ISDN and PSTN
Replacing ISDN and old phone lines before the 2027 switch-off.
By David White, Director, Padel Services · Updated October 2026
The short answer
ISDN30 and ISDN2 are replaced either by SIP lines into the phone system you already have, or by a cloud phone system that needs no phone system on site. Both keep your numbers. The right one depends on your phone system’s age and your internet connection.
Keep your system, or move to the cloud
If your phone system is recent and supports SIP, new lines can plug straight into it. If it is old or costly to maintain, a cloud phone system replaces it and the lines in one go.
Your internet carries the calls
Calls will run over your internet connection, so we check what is available at your address first: full fibre, a leased line, and a 4G or 5G backup that takes over on its own.
Your number ranges move with you
Main numbers and direct dial ranges all move across. We build the new setup in our workshop and keep the old lines live until the numbers move.
The questions businesses ask.
What replaces ISDN30 and ISDN2?
SIP lines into your existing phone system, or a cloud phone system. Both keep your numbers.
Can we keep our existing phone system?
Often, if it supports SIP and is still supported by its maker. We check it before recommending anything.
Will our current broadband carry the calls?
It depends on the line and how many calls you make at once. We check your address and your call volumes before we quote.
Is there any downtime when we move?
No. The new setup is built before we arrive, and your old lines stay live until your numbers move.
What happens to our direct dial number ranges?
They move with you, along with your main numbers.
